Inflammation…..AKA Fish Oil (Omega 3) explained:
Inflammation is a normal and natural process in our body. It is how the body heals itself.
The problem is the over-production of inflammation, (and resultant fibrotic lay-down between and within muscles) which can be brought about by the choices we make on a dietary and lifestyle level.
In order to understand how damaging constant low-level inflammation can be to our bodies, it is first necessary to explain some cellular anatomy and physiology.
Our cell membranes that encapsulate every cell in our body are made up of Fatty Acids. The most important of these acids are Omega 3 and Omega 6. A good analogy for these acids (Long-chain poly-unsaturated fatty acids to be more precise) is that Omega 3’s are like RUBBER BANDS and Omega 6’s are like MATCHSTICKS. Our body requires that these two acids be in a specific ratio to function properly and minimize inflammation. This ratio is 2:1; Omega 6: Omega 3. We are CONSTANTLY making and breaking cells, that’s what the body does. When the cell membrane is made of this 2:1 ratio, and the cell breaks, all is well, it is reabsorbed by the body and a new cell takes its place. But when this ratio is off, and Omega 6 makes up the majority of the membrane, when the cell breaks, inflammation results. This inflammation causes MORE FIBROSIS to be laid down throughout the body. Remember, fibrosis is the left-over dried goo and collagen fibers of past inflamed states. It’s the stuff that glues muscles to each other. So, in this analogy, the cell membrane should be two-thirds matchsticks and one-third rubber bands. This gives the cell FLUIDITY, an ability to “go with the flow” and bounce back when stresses are applied to it. And when it DOES break the result is not a strong inflammatory reaction, as occurs with the cell made of primarily Omega 6’s. If you’re asking, “then why can’t the cell be made of ALL rubber bands?”, it’s because of neurotransmitter “lock and keyhole” shapes in the membrane, which require this ratio to make them right-sized.
Omega 6 is everywhere in our diet. It is in the oils that are used to prepare our food. Read your food labels. The “oils and partially-hydrogenated oils from palm, cottonseed, vegetable”, those are all Omega 6. You don’t have to supplement them. Omega 3’s on the other hand MUST be supplemented. We used to have them in our diet in abundance, but no longer. Omega 6 gives foodstuff a longer shelf-life, and it’s cheaper to use.
Bottom Line: The average American must supplement with 3000mg Omega 3 each day. And this Omega 3 must be itself in a 2:1 ratio DHA:EPA and pharmaceutically-filtered.
Are you ready for this??
There is a de-evolution of our species taking place due to the systematic removal of Omega 3 from our diet. This has happened over the past 60 years as Omega 3 has been farmed out of the livestock and fished out of the ocean, not to mention “farmed” fish. (100% of Atlantic Salmon is farmed) Fish are farmed in tanks that are so crowded that disease is rampant and pesticides (PCB’s or polychlorobiphenols) have to be used. We can’t get our HIGH DOSE FISH OIL from fish….or eggs….or cereal. YOU MUST SUPPLEMENT IT. If you don’t, you will probably die sooner, with more inflammation, in more pain, with more stiffness.
There, I said it. It’s that important. Here’s why:
A lot of today’s kids aren’t fat, they’re swollen. They’re full of inflammation. Pick one up. The reason all these kids are swollen is that IT HAS FINALLY HAPPENED…..the Omega 3 is no longer sufficient in our diet, it’s been decreasing since the 1940’s when during War Rationing they found that people would eat lard instead of butter and love it. That’s when partially-hydrogenated vegetable oil got its start. And now the kids are dying a slow death of inflammatory conditions. How many kids do you know that have asthma? And that’s just one inflammatory condition. If you think I’m going off the deep end, check out the supporting articles under “Omega 3”. This is serious stuff.
Until recently it was IMPOSSIBLE to take in the amount of Omega 3 that we need because the pharmaceutical distillation process had not been invented, and if you took 2000 mg of fish oil, you got enough PCB’s and mercury to mess up your nervous system and get sick. “Sewer of the Sea” is what it was.
